Poor Kira

Kira is sick. She got a cold late last week and was coughing with a runny nose all weekend. None of this deterred her one bit. But then she woke up with a fever this morning so she stayed home from school. She was cranky and fell asleep for her nap very early. When she woke up she had a fever of 105 which sent me into a panic. Motrin brought the fever down quickly and a trip to the doctor's confirmed the problem is an ear infection. She's on antibiotics and we'll keep giving her Motrin for the fever until the antibiotics kick in. Hopefully she'll be feeling a lot better by tomorrow sometime. I feel so badly for her. She looks at me like, "Mommy, I hurt so much. Make me feel better." And there's just nothing I can do but hold her and rock her and sing to her. (The last part may be partly responsible for her foul mood.) She was burning up today and yet she had the chills. It was awful. The doctor couldn't believe this is the first time she's ever really been sick besides a cold. The antibiotics are the first medication she's ever been on in her life besides Tylenol and Motrin for teething. We have been very lucky so far. Hopefully she'll continue to be a very healthy kid. It's a good sign that she's finally ceased her 6 month long hunger strike and has started to eat with some gusto, though she's still no veggie lover. We'll keep working on that...
